Welcome to Laptops 4 R Kids

Saint G's, a church mission school on The Island (Haiti), has a computer lab that could use more computer equipment for the children. Currently there is a need for laptops, tablets, iPads, and cell phones. This website provides information on what is needed and how to send your old, unused devices to Saint G's.

Please refer to the following links for more information, and thank you for your willingness to support Haiti's children in need!

The Laptops Our Kids Need

The computers at Saint G's are all Windows laptop computers, and we can only accept Windows-based laptops.

The laptop should be in proper working order. If a laptop does not work, Saint G's will be unable to make use of it because we do not have the resources to troubleshoot and repair such devices. Please test the laptop and make sure it is in working order. It is not critical that the battery is in good condition, so if you have a laptop that works when it's plugged in but has a bad battery, we can still use the device.

Also please verify that all of the keys work. If the touchpad does not work we can still use the computer.

If the device you want to donate is in working order, the next step is to determine the laptop's Windows version and amount of RAM memory. This information can be obtained by opening up File Explorer, right-clicking "This PC", and selecting "Properties". Determine the amount of memory ("Installed RAM") and the Windows version ("Edition").

If you decide to donate your laptop, make sure you erase/delete all of your personal data before donating it!

Donating Your Laptop

To donate your laptop, call the Albany Office and give us your name, address, and the make and model of your laptop, as well as the version of Windows and amount of memory. We'll send you shipping materials with prepaid shipping included, and you can send us the device.

What We Do

First we'll remove the hard drive and send it back to you. Then we'll install a new drive and test the device to make sure everything works properly. If the laptop appears to be in working order we will install a new CD or DVD drive if needed, add RAM if required, and install a clean version of Windows 10 along with software that will be used by the children. We'll then ship the device to Haiti.

If the computer does not work, we will either return it to you or with your permission donate it to a group of retired employees of the General Electric Company of Upstate New York, who will attempt to repair the laptops for donation to those in need.

Finally, the IRS allows for a $200 charitable tax deduction for any working laptop donated to charity, so we'll send you a receipt in that amount for your tax purposes.

Donate a Cell Phone

There is a dire need for cell phones on The Island. Unlike laptops, cell phones are small in size and don't weigh much so we are not as concerned if a cell phone does not work. If you would like to donate a cell phone, remember to delete all of your stored phone numbers, messages, mail, pictures, and other personal information.

Once you have deleted all personal information off your phone, contact the Albany Office and give us your name and address, and we'll send you a padded envelope with postage paid so you can mail the phone to us. If you have the charging cable, please inlcude the cable with the phone.

If the phone does not work, we will either return it to you or donate it to an organization that can repair it for free donation to women who live in fear of domestic violence.

Donate a Tablet or iPad

Tablets are much smaller than laptops but are extremely versatile and very popular. Tablets can be used by students to access the Internet, takes pictures, create videos, and run a wide range of programs and applications.

If you have a tablet or iPad you would like to donate, first delete all personal information from the device. Then contact the Albany Office and give us your name and address, and we'll send you a padded envelope or box with postage paid so you can mail the device to us. If you have the charging cable, please inlcude the cable with the tablet or iPad.

Tablets and iPads are difficult to repair, so please send such devices only if you believe them to be in good working order.
